Frequently Asked Questions

What is IDGAF?

IDGAF is an eclectic, accessible, initiatory tradition of modern witchcraft.

Wait, witchcraft? What's that?

Witchcraft is a vibrant and non-theistic practice, used to create change with one's will using a prescribed set of actions. Witches come in every stripe - you can have Christian and Jewish and Atheist witches as much as Wiccan or Pagan witches. Our tradition focuses on Pagan witchcraft for the most part, but since many of us walk varied paths, we wouldn't rule out any of the above.

I heard witchcraft is evil and satanic.

Well, seeing as it is non-theistic, it isn't really evil or good. It is a set of actions - like baking bread. Maybe you bake Satan bread, but we generally make regular bread.

The bent of witchcraft depends on the bent of the witch wielding it. The vast majority of witches live in a happy grey area - mostly benign, but ready to defend if necessary. While we are sure there are witches out there who worship or work with the concept of Satan, Satan is a theistic scapegoat from the Christian tradition, and most of the gods we work with are older and more primal.

Like Susan, our patron god of not giving a fuck.

Why the name IDGAF?

IDGAF was born from frustration and empowerment. We were frustrated with the lack options in our community, as well as the drama attached to many of the established groups. We decided we were done, we didn't give a fuck, and decided to take back our own power and create our own tradition.

Aren't you afraid people won't take you seriously?

See, therein lies the beauty of truly not giving a fuck. If people are refusing to look past a silly name, are those the types of people we want involved in our tradition? IDGAF dedicants and initiates are fearless and strong. They have no time to worry over a name. If people don't like the name, or find it offensive, or think it's stupid - they can jog right on by. We're certain you will find another tradition that suits you!

We also think that levity is an important part of spiritual growth. Laughter and not taking yourself too seriously are essential.

I really like the tradition, but I think the name is stupid. Won't you just change it?

Look, there are a lot of words out there that we don't like. Moist. Used. Squirt. Yet cake is moist (and delicious!), used clothes are a bargain, and a squirt of ketchup makes a hotdog perfect.

Dick Cavett once said “Censorship feeds the dirty mind more than the four-letter word itself.” We stand behind the use of our language, because being straight forward and to the point is more effective than trying to dance around the word in case someone becomes offended. We feel it is the right name to use, because it encapsulates our feelings of freedom when we use it. We're all adults here.

Richard Pryor also said “What I'm saying might be profane, but it's also profound.”

In other words, get over it or move along.

I don't like this! It's going to fail horribly! You're a bunch of negative people.... etc!

That's okay. Our hearts aren't broken if you don't like this. At the end of the day, we've created something for ourselves that has worked, and we are sharing it with others in hopes that it may work for someone else. No one is obliged to like it or dislike it.

We can certainly see better uses of your time than emailing/Facebooking/You Tubing your negative comments - we assure you, we've pretty much anticipated the worst of the worst. As for a better use of your time - have you looked at our recommended reading list?

That’s a lot of reading! I don’t know if I can do this!

We believe that spiritual growth and fulfillment comes as the result of hard work. We believe that the requirements we have are reasonable (after all, we've done them ourselves) and if you find the workload to be too overwhelming, perhaps IDGAF is not a good fit for you.

How do I become an initiate?

Contact one of the founders to speak further about your experience, your goals, and what is expected of you to see if you would be a good fit. If you are deemed a good fit, you will begin your 6 month study period and assigned a mentor.

How much does it cost?

IDGAF has no membership fees or dues, we are a free and open tradition!

What is expected of me?

Honestly? Don't be an asshole. We're all adults - we expect you to act like one, and respect everyone. Do your homework. Keep in contact with your mentor and communicate on a regular basis. Don't be lazy - there are no "Sunday Pagans" here. Brush your teeth. Floss.

Who can I contact with other questions?

The IDGAF (I Don’t Give a Fuck) tradition was an eclectic, accessible, initiatory tradition of modern witchcraft. The name IDGAF (pronounced Id-gaf) is a tongue-in-cheek commentary on the inaccessibility and rigid structure of many modern witchcraft paths.
